Oregano Oil Benefits

Oregano oil has benefits that make it one of the top herbal remedies for eliminating unwanted bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses in our bodies. It’s main constituent, Carvacrol, has been shown to kill candida, e. coli, salmonella, and many more harmful pathogens. While this disinfectant action has only been proven in a test tube thus far, an overwhelming amount of customer testimonials have proven to lessen the severity and length of many infections.

While Carvacrol is what many people look for in a quality oregano oil, many more therapeutic compounds have been found in wild oregano oil. Compounds like Thymol, Terpenes, Rosmarinic Acid, and Naringin provide additional support to combat unwanted guests.

On top of the immune system benefits, new research indicates that certain compounds in Oregano Oil cross the blood-brain barrier and can positively modulate two important neurotransmitters – dopamine and seratonin. In low doses (12.5mg/kg), it was found that carvacrol increases dopamine and seratonin levels in the hippocampus and pre-frontal cortex. Future research will most likely include the oil’s role in treating Parkinsons and Alzheimers disease.

Other studies have shown anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic effects from taking carvacrol in particular. Inflammation is a major factor in chronic disease. It has been shown in mice that carvacrol reduces inflammation in a number of ways.

More research needs to be done in regards to effects and proper dosage on humans. I am very optimistic with the anecdotal and scientific research thus far and believe going through a high quality bottle of wild oregano oil, two or three times a year, is right for me.
